A French Man Traveling the World — From Kitahama to Shikoku, a 1,450 km Challenge Begins
At 11:30 last night, I received an email.
Then, at 9:30 this morning, the sender—a French man carrying a large amount of luggage—walked through the doors of SOHO BOX KITAHAMA.
This sense of speed, and the unexpected stories that unfold from moments like these, are part of my everyday life and the greatest joy of running this business here in Osaka's Kitahama for the past 17 years.
## From the Himalayas to Shikoku: An Epic Journey
As we talked, I was astonished by the scale of his travels.
Before arriving in Japan, he had spent three months in India, trekking through the Himalayas.
Now, his challenge in Japan is to complete the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage.
Not by train or bus, but entirely on foot as a walking pilgrim (*aruki henro*).
From the rugged peaks of the Himalayas to the sacred sites of Shikoku.
I was simply overwhelmed by his incredibly free-spirited and passionate way of living.
Our conversation was filled with surprise and laughter from beginning to end.
It was one of those moments that makes you think, "What a vast world we live in!"—a time that naturally expanded the boundaries of my own perspective and filled me with excitement.

Starting today, we will be looking after his precious luggage for 29 days, until August 25.
Because a walking pilgrimage is such a demanding journey, even he cannot predict exactly when he will return.

世界を旅するフランス男性 —— 北浜から四国へ、1200キロの挑戦が始まる
昨夜11時半、一通のメールが届きました。
そして今朝9時半、その送り主であるフランス人男性が、大きな荷物を抱えてSOHO BOX 北浜の扉を開けられました。
このスピード感、そしてそこから始まる予期せぬ物語こそが、大阪・北浜の地で17年目を迎える私の日常であり、最大の醍醐味です。
■ ヒマラヤから四国へ。壮大な旅のスケール
彼とお話しして、その旅のスケールに度肝を抜かれました。
日本に降り立つ前は、なんとインドに3ヶ月間滞在し、ヒマラヤの山々を歩いていたそうです。
そして今回、この日本で彼が挑戦するのは「四国霊場88か所巡り」。
それも電車やバスを使わず、すべて自分の足で歩く「歩き遍路」だと言うのです。
ヒマラヤの峻険な峰々から、四国の聖地へ。
そのあまりに自由で、情熱に満ちた生き方に、私はただただ圧倒されました。
彼との会話は終始、驚きと笑いに満ちていました。
「世界はなんて広いんだ！」と、自分の心の枠がぐんぐんと広がっていくような、理屈抜きのワクワクする時間でした。

今日から8月25日までの29日間、彼の大切な荷物をお預かりします。
過酷な「歩き遍路」ゆえに、いつ旅を終えて戻ってこられるか、正確な日程は本人にも読めません。
